Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

Plant a Tree for the Jubilee

As part of the celebrations of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Upton Parish Council have taken part in the Queen's Green Canopy Project to plant as many trees as possible for The Queen's Green Canopy (www.queensgreencanopy.org). As part of this we planted 320 saplings across the parish and also 4 feature trees. The feature trees are in each corner of Upton Square. 160 saplings were planted in Upton Country Park, and another 160 in St Crispin Park. A wide and diverse range of species were planted, Elder, Rowan, Crab Apple, Oak, Wild Cherry, Hazel and Silver Birth among many others. The feature trees are cherry, specifically chosen as high blossoming trees to bring colour to the community in the Spring. We were joined by pupils from St Lukes and Upton Meadows along with Scouts from the 47th and 56th groups, as well as some local residents who were keen to be part of the event. Charles Langtree from The Land Trust, a professional arboriculturist, supported with guidance and advice on planting. Upton Parish Council thank everyone for attending and supporting this initiative which will see a long lasting legacy.
